Orbits

Orbits (2001) is a dance piece created and choreographed by Monica Karwan. At the time, Monica and I were working a a fair amount on various projects. We worked together in the performance-art group RANT and I had also asked her to tap dance in a piece I was working on for voice, tap dancer, and computer; she had also lent her voice and story telling skills to an acousmatic piece of mine. So, I was more than happy to continue our collaboration. The piece was created through exploration with the dancers. I attended their work sessions and would improvise along with them. Afterwards, I would spend time in my home studio recording sections for her to use in rehearsal an solidify the piece. The piece was premiered in the Center for the Arts at SUNY Buffalo during a recital in the spring of 2001.
